It had always been a lingering thought at the back of Rin's mind. He offered hearts to the Gods, for the hearts were sacred, powerful. As he joined the battles against the demons of the Void in his dreams every night, a soldier of Senisteros himself, disillusioned Alizarin believed that if he could consume a heart, or more than one, then perhaps he could be an even stronger soldier.

Upon making the decision to leave Vektren to search for answers for why Renae's Gods, and his Gods, brought them together, Rin decided to act upon these old thoughts. In a waking dream-like, crazed state, Rin killed a lone wolf, devoured its heart, and left the body to be found by the wolves of Vektren. His loyalty had only ever been to the Gods, not to any mortal leader. He believed They would understand his motives. After all, he was doing it for Them.

But the mortal servants that had once been his packmates? They would not understand, and it was for them that he left the heartless body behind. A message that boldly said "Come and get me."
